7-DAY MACHU PICCHU & AMAZON TOUR ITINERARY 

Day 1.- Cusco In and Walking Tour

The Machu Picchu and Amazon Tour begins with a reception and transfer to your upscale hotel to acclimate to Cusco’s high altitude. Around noon, your guide meets you at your hotel for a walking tour (at your own speed) of downtown Cusco. Walk through ancient Inca and colonial streets to imagine earlier times. Visit the holy Qoricancha Temple, which was originally covered with gold plates inside and out. Explore Sacsaywaman with its monolithic stones, structural symbolism, and a great view over downtown Cusco. Experience San Pedro Market with all your senses. End the day with a relaxing dinner at your posh hotel or dine at one of the many extraordinary restaurants of Cusco city.

Day 2.- Private Sacred Valley Tour

Set out early with your private guide and transportation all to yourselves, experience the Andean culture up close. Head towards the town of Chinchero, renowned for its expert weavers, to watch a demonstration using traditional looms and plant-dyed yarns. Continue to Maras to see over 4,000 salt mines that have produced pure, pink salt for generations. After this visit you will continue towards Moray to see a breathtaking view of the concentric Inca farming terraces. Later, you will continue to the Inca village of Ollantaytambo. Here, you will also visit the impressive Inca site.
Finally, at 3:37 pm, we catch the Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes and spend the night in your selected Hotel.

Day 3.- Machu Picchu Private Tour

Today, you will take a 25-minute bus up the hill to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Your private guided tour is tailored to your interests: ancient lifestyles, science, mythology, religion, engineering, or other topics. Your expert guide has the answers. Explore the most important places of the citadel: The Guardhouse, Sun temple, and Royalty group, Main Plaza, Three Windows Temple, and the Sacred Sun Dial. Wear hiking shoes for this 3-hour tour because you walk on narrow stone paths and steps. Later, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, then board the Vistadome train to Ollantaytambo Station. From here, private vehicle takes you back to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 4.- Rainbow Mountain Tour

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at 7:00 am from your hotel in Cusco. Board our comfortable private vehicle and enjoy the ride for 3 hours to the trail-head. Once there, get ready and follow the instructions of your guide for a better experience. Enjoy this 3-hour hike with plenty of time for photographs and history. The return from Rainbow Mountain follows the same trail back to the parking area.

To avoid the crowds, the Rainbow Mountain Tour departs from Cusco later than most tours. This also gives you some more time to sleep and eat your breakfast at your hotel. Additionally, on this type of tour, we provide a nutritious lunch box, which you will enjoy after returning from the mountain.

Finally, we will take our private transportation back to Cusco, arriving around 7:00 pm at your hotel.

Day 5: Travel to Tambopata Jungle Lodge 

The Amazon Rainforest Tour from Cusco begins with a transfer to the airport for your travel to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, our staff welcomes and escorts you to the dock to board your powerboat to the jungle lodge. Take a 45-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River. Take in the distinct sights and sounds of the thick Amazon jungle. At the lodge, take a little time to relax in your spacious room with a sitting area, private bath, mosquito nets, and hammocks. Later, explore the jungle in a two-hour walk with an expert guide who describes the tangle of lush vegetation, and with luck, animals like monkeys, macaws, and toucans. Also, search for caimans and other night creatures on the riverbank in a pre-dinner excursion. Lunch and dinner are included.

Day 6: Tambopata Reserve – Lake Sandoval – Canopy Walk

Begin the day early with a cup of coffee before heading out to explore Lake Sandoval. Early morning is when the animals gather and with luck, see brightly colored macaws, caimans, river otters, or monkeys. Next, travel by boat on the Madre Dios River to reach the Tambopata National Reserve. This protected nature reserve is home to more than a thousand species of flora and fauna, including birds, mammals, and reptiles. During a 5 km (over 3 miles) hike, be awed by the closeness of the jungle’s extreme biodiversity. Return to the lodge for a sumptuous lunch.  Then, comes one of the jungle stay’s highlights: the canopy walk. Climb the platforms to secure bridges suspended high in the treetops. Feel the breeze and marvel at the vast lush forest that surrounds you. For your farewell dinner, savor exquisite Amazonian delicacies. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 7: Lodge – Puerto Maldonado – Travel to Lima

Today, enjoy your final Amazon rainforest experience as parakeets chatter in the trees. Depending on your departure flight time. Embark your ready-waiting boat for the 45-minute return trip along the snaking Madre de Dios River until arriving at the airport. Breakfast is included.
